So I promised a vacation blog and have been a little slow in delivering. We took off for a week at the beginning of June to Vancouver Island to spend a few days touring around. We spent the first night in Nanaimo at a cute hotel called Inn on Long Lake. It was great because they were very dog friendly and so we were able to take Walter with us – no hassles at all. The grounds were beautiful and we had a ground floor room – perfect for taking the dog out.

Jack and Walter enjoying the view.
That night we were able to hang out with Hayley and Brandon and have a really nice catch up and devour a really delicious Jalapeno Popper pizza….. I’m pretty sure Steve still has dreams about it.
After that we headed to Tofino and stayed in a cute suite in a house – right across from Chesterman Beach called the Huckleberry Retreat. It was perfect as it was so close for us to get to the beach and we could let Walter go crazy. We spent two nights there – toured the beaches – went into Tofino and Ucluelet and had some really good meals. Jack had lot’s of fish and loved it all and I had the best chocolate mousse I’ve ever had. Two places to eat that we recommend: Red Can Gourmet (takeout only) in Tofino and Ukee Dogs in Ucluelet (so much more than hotdogs). We were both delightfully surprised and agreed they were absolutely delicious.

Walter mauling…
We had some good weather and some rainy weather but overall it was a good couple of days. After that we headed down to Victoria to visit with some friends who have recently moved – Amy, Kris and Alexis (and of course Ryder – Walter’s buddy). We had an excellent visit with them – Amy and Kris demonstrated seal feeding techniques at the fisherman’s wharf and they also surprised Jack with an early birthday cake…… which I’m pretty sure he enjoyed….
“Whoa…. what is that?”
“For me! Alright!!”
Ryder helpfully cleaned up the mess.
On the July long weekend we went up to Tulameen (30 min from Princeton) and stayed in a friend’s cabin. Jack had a quick dip in the lake but the water wasn’t warm enough for a proper swim. The temperature in town though was hot, hot, hot! Poor Jack was cooking Saturday night so we ended up giving him a wet face cloth to play with to help cool him off.
The last couple of weeks Jack has also been working on another project…. teeth!! He now totals six teeth – four top and two bottom. Unfortunately this – along with the hot weather hasn’t made him the happiest baby so we’re all looking forward to when this calms down.
We also started swim lessons last week – I’m not sure he’s completely on board with it yet….
He started crawling two weeks ago – see video here of his first crawl: Video – Click Here Since then he has figured out a much more effective army crawl and drags himself around the living room.
Awkward crawl…
On Monday we met up with a couple of the baby’s from the NICU – it was Aria’s First Birthday and we celebrated it with the monkeys, lions and hippos. She was born at 26 weeks and was one of our NICU buddies right from the beginning at RCH. Now she’s a happy, healthy one year old. Happy Birthday little miss!
Jack has also started copying things we do – See Video here
Tomorrow is Jack’s first birthday and I promise a lot of cuteness – so stay tuned!
